Touting Birks, Catrail and ancient forts

Leaving Hike & Bike Hub in Gala, we will skirt Galashiels and head over the spur of Gala Hill. After taking in the views of the area surrounding Touting Birks Hill, we will take time to explore the ancient Catrail trench and two of the iron age forts. Our journey back to Gala takes us alongside the River Tweed, past Abbotsford House, the home of Sir Walter Scott.

After checking in at the Hub, we will head through the town towards towards Victoria Park, passing Gala Cricket Club before following part of the Meigle Circuit and dropping down to Wood Street. We will make our way to Torwoodlee estate, home of the Pringle family. We will have the chance to explore Torwoodlee Tower before walking up to the iron age broch. From here, we make our way across Torwoodlee Estate to Buckholm Hill, visiting Buckholm Tower on the way to Ladhope Gorge and return to the Hub.

Leaving Hike & Bike Hub, this gentle stroll will take in the murals (and more!) around the town centre. Come and hear the stories behind the murals as we wander around and take in some of the sights. 

This walk is a great opportunity to learn a wee bit more about our town!

River Gala and Langlee Community Wood's

Leaving Hike & Bike Hub, we will walk alongside the Gala Water to Winston Road into Langlee, entering the community woodland by the community centre. We will follow the woodland path, coming out on Wylies Brae and head back into the town centre.

Tweedbank, Abbotsford and Cauldshiels Hill Fort

After checking in at Hike & Bike Hub, we will take the train to Tweedbank.

From Tweedbank station, we will walk through Abbotsford Estate, crossing behind Abbotsford House to ascend towards Cauldshiels, before skirting around Faldonside Moor and down by Faldonside Loch. We will head back into the Abbotsford Estate and along towards the old Tweed Bridge, from where will turn back into Galashiels alongside the River Tweed  at Boleside to Galafoot, and back into the town centre alongside the Gala Water.
